Deacon Dorie Jones,
M.Div, MSW

Deacon Dorie and wife Andrea at Pride
Called to ministry after college, Dorie entered seminary at the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University in Atlanta, GA graduating with a Masters in Divinity (M.Div) in 2000. Developing an interest in advocacy and social services, Dorie was accepted to the Savannah State University School of Social Work and graduated with a Masters in Social Work (MSW) in 2005.
For a dozen years, Dorie worked as a crisis counselor and peer support program coordinator at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) at the Department of Homeland Security. Bitten by the training bug, Dorie resigned government service and co-founded Crisis Support Solutions, LLC, where she built curriculum and delivered training to peer support teams across the US.
After becoming a Lutheran and member at Zion Lutheran Church, Dorie’s call was rekindled and she entered the candidacy process to become a Deacon. As such, Dorie completed a Certificate of Advanced Theological Study (CATS) at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) in Berkeley, CA. Dorie was called by Zion in May 2024 to be their first serving Deacon.
In 2024, Dorie also founded MESS Ministries, Inc. and partners with Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) to provide Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual Support training to leaders and laity across the ELCA landscape.
Dorie lives happily with her wife, Andrea, and two rescue pups in the Spring Branch area of Houston. Even though Dorie now lives in Texas, she remains a rabid Georgia Bulldog fan and will gladly talk SEC football with anyone interested. Go Dawgs!
